vampwillow: thinking (thinker)

Cross-poster (again)

When using the cross-poster, if you select Disable comments on crossposts made to other sites on you accounts page a message "This entry was originally posted at http://xxxxx.dreamwidth.org/0000.html. Please comment there using OpenID.", clearly indicating it was cross-posted.

If you don't disable comments at the receiver end though there is no indication that it was cross-posted at all.

I'm not sure if this is a missing feature (_option_ to include "This entry was originally posted at http://xxxxx.dreamwidth.org/0000.html") or a needed clarification on the accounts page.

Personally I'd like the fact it was cross-posted to be automatically included, but I can see not everyone might.

Thoughts?

it might be nice to have the option of stamping an entry 'cross posted' regardless of comment status, but I can see strong social arguments against making it mandatory (mostly that it will piss people off for no good reason to have it there, and DW users may choose not to do that to their friends on other services)

Yeah, exactly. I've already got a couple people at LJ who think I'm a snobby elitist for having a DW at all, and a couple more who are tired of hearing everyone on their friends list talk about how awesome DW is, and I don't want to annoy them by giving them another reminder.

(They'll come around eventually. ;))

I would actually like it to say "Please comment there using OpenID or your Dreamwidth account."

It would be nice if there was the *option* to indicate that it was crossposted and comments are available in more than one place. I'd like to make sure I wasn't missing part of the conversation.

IAWTC. I've not made everything comment here yet, I probaly will but not yet, and it'd be nice to draw people here if they don't mind it (some won't leave the cozy little confines of LJ at all).

Please, not so much.

We are on lj as singlet; we're not known there. There are some who might noght take well to us...

I can see why people would want that though, expecially those who have the same name, but our dreamwidth was meant to be a place where we could sort of throw off the singlet mask and be *us* (as is our inksome, but ya know.)

In that case, I think maybe there should be a checkbox under the cross poster when someone doesn't disable comments. "Would you like to show where this has been crossposted from/where it was originally posted?" something along those lines. A bit morecoding, perhaps, but yeah.

And thank you. :)

This isn't really a docs issues. You'd probably be better off taking it to [site community profile] dw_suggestions to make sure it gets seen by the right people.

It's a bit of a hybrid, yes. It's not something that the docs team can handle though, since the code doesn't currently make allowances for different messages and making them optional and what have you. Which is why I suggested you take it elsewhere, so that coders could see it. Have you done so, or would you prefer that I migrate it over for you?

Would prefer it if you could, since I have plenty to be doing anyway. Just wanted to check that I hadn't told you to go do something you weren't comfortable with or anything. Since it's a good suggestion, and it doesn't deserve to languish. :)

Agreed. Ideally I would like an option to include the original post and invitation to comment at DW, without having to cut people off from the option of replying on LJ.
