esn.security_attribute_changed.account_activated.email_text and esn.security_attribute_changed.account_deleted.email_text both say in the text:

Please immediately read FAQ 117 [[http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=117]] to learn what steps you should take to resecure your journal.

Changing that to http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=117 doesn't currently work and brings up this error:

[Error: Can't call method "render_in_place" on an undefined value at '/home/dw/current/htdocs/support/faqbrowse.bml' line 56. @ dfw-web02]

The security stuff is going to be a guide, I believe. At the moment it's just a stub, here: http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=39

But you're right, right now we don't have any FAQs explaining how to make the account secure. You probably want some mention of FAQ 3 (how do I confirm my email address?) http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=3

When we use the FAQ interface, we can write lj://faq/3 and it automatically expands to the full URL. (This is backend stuff so nobody's bothered to change it to dw.) I don't know if that works on the docedit pages too?

Actually, writing site://faq/3 should work - it was changed to be non-site specific.

Unfortunately FAQ 3 says nothing about how to resecure one's account -- it seems like pointing someone to it would be pretty aggravating.

I've never filed a bug report before.

I've created a new account at bugzilla, but I have no idea where to go from there (whether it would go in documentation, operation, etc).

If you have time to walk me through the process, I'd be happy to do it, but I'm quite lost and don't know where to start on my own. (And if it's easier to do it yourself, I quite understand.)

I'm not able to use IRC (brain injury issues), and when I try to go to dw-kindergarten.dreamwidth.org I'm getting "unknown user", so I'm guessing those might be IRC as well?

I've read the page you linked multiple times, and I'm just not understanding it.

So at this point the answer is no, actually I can't file the bug report.

OK. Hmm, I can talk you through it, provided we can find a way to actually talk. (When you say you can't use IRC, does that also include IM methods such as Jabber/LJTalk and such?)

Yes, it includes all of those, unfortunately. I'm fine with email though, if that works for you, or the private messages here at dw.
