Better documentation of the way OpenID interacts with journals set to allow logged-in users only really, really needs fixed, and soon: that seems to hit a very high proportion of openID users when they first come to DW, and the docs for it *fail*. It should also be made cleare to users when they're setting their own security levels that blocking anons also blocks casual openID. (I know a lot of people have been blocking anons because they assume passers-by can use openID instead, which is not how it works.)

There is bug 90, which will change the behaviour and is launch-blocking, but I still wish the documentation would get fixed before that.

She's right, even if that post hurts a bit. It's a band-aid measure, but I've added How do I comment using OpenID? to the FAQs and linked it in appropriate places. The OpenID thing is in flux because yeah, there are problems with the actual functionality as well as the docs, and there are patches filed to sort that out. But a bit more documentation of the situation as it is now can't hurt. Thanks for reporting this one.

Yeah I wrote (at least the first drafts of) both the OpenID FAQs, and I have one but I don't use it, so in the documentation process I created one and walked through the procedure of setting up an OpenID account on DW and described the steps involved. It probably is still confusing though and obviously doesn't address all of the concerns and problems that someone using the site with OpenID is facing.

We should probably consider breaking this FAQ out into two sections: one for people who have *never* used OpenID before *at all*, and the other for people who already have one and are using it elsewhere.

I volunteer somebody else to write them, because I know both too much and not enough about the whole process at this point.
